HUMAN CIRCULATION IN PHILADELPHIA 

    Circulation is a major organizing force in the constitution of urban life.  Focusing on mapping this movement throughout the city of Philadelphia helps one to better understand the organizing forces behind the composition of the city. This was achieved by exploring three different forms of circulation throughout the area of center city. 
    This included observing bike, public transportation, and Pedestrian movement. It helped to gain a better understanding of overall circulation throughout the city. Circulation or movement is a major part of the character of a city and of its aesthetic value. Certainly the hectic flow of the city has often been romanticized which, produces a particular image that does not always align with its concrete conditions.  Public mass transportation reveals not only the hustle and bustle of moving people but it also reveals the transitional spaces from one type of transportation to another. It is in these in-between spaces that we learn the most. The circulation of people helps to constitute the character of that particular place.  The circuitry of the city, or its circulatory system of traffic ways and major pedestrian hubs can both encourage and stem movement and in term be shaped by that movement.
